Me with some of the youth from Smokey Mountain. The Department of Environment and Natural Resources, along with UNEP, hosted a "Consultation Workshop for the Development of a National Framework on the Management of the Informal Sector in Solid Waste Management." The government invited both scavengers from different communities, to express their concerns and ideas, and resource speakers. I presented the Smokey Mountain cooperative as a lesson on how to implement alternative livelihoods for scavenger communities. Between the Disaster Management conference and this one, I got to meet interesting people, experience power point overload, and eat pansit (the national meeting food of choice) for 48 hours straight.
